Gavin Patrick Ready

I just saw and held the cutest little boy ever, Gavin Patrick! Gavin was born yesterday at 4:58pm and is 8 lbs and 21 inches and is the proud new owner of parents Jen and Pat. He is healthy and Jen did great and Pat couldn't be more proud. Although I always have a hard time telling who babies look like I must say I think Gavin already has a strong Fluhr trait, TONS OF HAIR!!!

39 Weeks

I haven't noticed any "dropping" of the belly yet? We'll see as I'll be taking weekly photos now. Only the baby knows when it's time. I'm thinking later this week or weekend!!

A productive day

Sunday turned out to be a completely productive day, a huge surprise to me, usually we just lounge around the house!! I got up at 8:30am and started getting ready for church, Jeremy had mentioned to me on Saturday that if I wanted to go it had to be at 9am. Jeremy was still sleeping and I was hoping my getting ready would rouse him from his slumber, no such luck. I knelt down beside him and quietly asked if he was awake, he mumbled something, then asked if he could start getting ready. His eyes shot open and he looked at me and said, "Why, did your water break?" He was slightly disappointed when I told him that I was getting ready for church and not the hospital. After church I met up with a friend of mine, Alesha, who is having twins in November for brunch. It was good catching up and enjoying some good breakfast and a yummy coffee! I got home and decided to tackle my horrendously out of control garden, I knew my time was limited and if I didn't do it now, I would have to wait until spring. I cleaned out and cut back tons of plants and it looks pretty good now. When I was done, I was inside making meatballs and homemade spaghetti sauce for us and Jen and Pat to freeze. I finished the night off with an amazing bath and a splendid night sleep. Ahhh, I love being productive at 39 weeks pregnant, I know my time is getting down there so I am stoked to get a few more things done!!

Happy couple and Happy Jeremy!!

We had a reception for friends of ours on Saturday afternoon that got married in Mexico. It was a great day and a beautiful reception. I didn't bring my camera, so no photos, but Jamie and Ryan looked great and looked like they were having a great time!

Later that afternoon Iowa played Penn St in a heated game that Jeremy was preparing for all day! We went to Jimmy and Kristin's to watch the game, I don't think Jeremy could have just sat at home with me, just not the same effect. He was a super fan and was stoked for the BIG win for Iowa. Here are some shots of us and "them" celebrating some of the plays.

Dad's-to-be say the darndest things...

Jeremy has been so funny lately. We have been checking everything off of our "list" and Jeremy finally completed his part with installing the car seats, getting the carpets cleaned and helping me make a daycare decision. So, he's had a little more time to think about what else needs to be done. I've made mention to him many times that I really love being pregnant and said I'll seriously miss it when I finally have the baby. He asked me the other day if I will get the baby blues (postpartum blues) once the baby is here?? First off, I didn't even know he knew or had heard much about that and secondly I'm not "planning" on getting the blues, but can't make any promises... I told him that he'll just have to deal with whatever I'm like after the baby, pleasant or unpleasant as it is, I did just deliver his first born child! He also comes into the bathroom as I'm getting ready for work the other morning, almost in a panic. We were just at the dr a few days before talking about getting flu shots and making sure the baby is well protected during his first few months because it's flu season, so this must have been fresh on his mind. He says, "Lara, we don't have any anti bacterial hand sanitizer for when people come over and see the baby. You need to make sure you get some the next time you're at the store." I responded that, although we don't have a large dispenser of this stuff, we do have 3 sinks and A LOT of hand soap that people can use to wash their hands. He's already the protective dad, making sure everyone is sterile and CLEAN the moment they walk into the house, because we'll probably throw the baby at them instantly. And one last thing...last night I was up a lot because of my annoying, tingling hands and at around 4:30 he also woke up to get a drink of water from his night stand. I looked at him and said, "baby, I cannot sleep at all tonight, I keep waking up and can't fall back to sleep." He responds, "Why are you having contractions? Is the baby coming?" I reassured him that I would let him know if that was the case, and I was just uncomfortable. This seemed to sooth him because within a few seconds he was back to sleep, very sound!!

Pros and Cons of pregnancy at almost 39 weeks

I still really love being pregnant. I keep joking that the baby is so easy to take care of in the womb, doesn't cry, need to be fed all of the time or keep us up, but it's also getting exciting because we are both anxious to see what the baby looks like. I have decided to work up until my delivery because I didn't want to make myself crazy around the house thinking of things I need to do or I need to have Jeremy do. Work keeps me occupied. The con to working up until the baby comes is that there are some coworkers of mine that ask daily if today's the day, am I having contractions, is my water going to break when we're having a meeting, etc... That gets slightly annoying, like I need a daily reminder I'm pregnant and going to deliver soon?! My back has been bothering me a little and feet tend to get a little swollen after a day at work, but nothing major. The really weird thing I asked the dr about the other day was a tingling sensation I've had in my hands that wake me up in the middle of the night, also my fingers go numb when I blow dry or straighten my hair. My midwife said it is probably pregnancy induced carpal tunnel, how weird??!! It does tend to go away 6 weeks after pregnancy, but I never would have thought this would be a symptom. I have been getting nightly foot rubs from Jeremy, with just a little prodding from me, and am encouraged to multiple times of the day sit down and relax, someone else will do what I was going to do. I have also been eating well, maybe a little too well... Certain things are not as appealing as they once were, but baked goods hit the spot, maybe not the best thing to be eating if I want to be semi back to normal after the baby, but they are delicious!! All in all things are going really well and we're hoping to enjoy, at least one more weekend, of relaxation and sleep before baby comes.

Jeremy's 30th Birthday

Jeremy's 30th birthday was on Friday and we both worked 1/2 day. He wanted to enjoy the boat, one last time (I'm telling you this is how our minds are thinking now!), before the baby. We went out for a while and the guys played frisbee and I just sweated a lot! It was a little uncomfortable and I'm pretty glad it was the last time on the boat, while pregnant! Once home we got ready for dinner and I had Jeremy open his gifts. The first pic of him opening an envelop was the funniest expression and he was so excited to a ticket for a Hawkeye's game against Michigan on homecoming. I gave him permission to have a baby free evening with Pat at the game, as long as they came home that night! I also got him a print by a local artist he's been wanting and a photo book I made on snapfish of him and I, pre-baby. We went out to dinner with Jimmy and Kristin to Hoolihan's and it was a great meal and pretty cheap, free entree with the purchase of one on your birthday!! Saturday night we planned a big, but casual party and he was surprised when he returned home from the bar, watching the Hawks game, that the deck was decorated for a party, with balloons, birthday sign, 30th bday cake and pics of him through his 30 years. Friends and family trickled in though the night and we had a great time. There were some serious games of bean bags and the bon fire was going throughout most of the night. We had so much fun catching up with people we hadn't seen in a while and hanging out with everyone! Jeremy, Jason, Jimmy, Jared, Kristin, Melissa and I were last, lone survivors. I finally made it to bed around 2:3o am, I didn't want to miss any fun, and they followed suit around 3:45 am. We slept in on Sunday and hung around the house relaxing after a busy weekend. Thanks for all who came and helped Jeremy break in his 30s!

38 weeks

OK, seriously this is getting crazy!! The past 2 months have just flown by and the "date" is creeping up! I had an appointment this week, they are weekly now, and they just checked the heart beat and my belly's growth. My Dr asked if I was having any contractions and I told her that I didn't think I've had anything yet?. She didn't check for dilation, but next week will. Jeremy and I keep talking about our lasts and we're trying to sleep as much as possible, enjoying the last few days? weeks? of peace and quiet in our home! Although I'm a little nervous, Jeremy cannot wait to have the baby here, I think he's excited to see what it is and what it looks like!

Great husband

I had to work Saturday until about 3 and then today until 4 and was a little bummed I wasn't going to be able to get much done around the house. I feel like our time to prepare and clean is slipping away! When I left this morning Jeremy was in cleaning mode, I love it when that happens, and I got home to a sparkling clean kitchen, cleaned out cabinets, laundry hanging out to dry and a well vacuumed home! It's so nice to not have to worry about taking care of this stuff when I get home and as I'm more and more pregnant my legs and back are aching a bit more than normal. I do a good job razzing Jeremy, but he's really been so great to have around during my pregnancy, I think I'll keep him!

UD Home game

The first UD home game was Saturday night against U of Wisconsin Platteville. We met up with my coworkers and Jimmy and Jared for a hopeful begin to a new season. We have a new coach at UD and we were excited to see what he could do with a, ah hem, not so great team. It was a good game, but unfortunately we lost 20-28. As I mentioned we were at the game with my co-workers and their kids were along too. They were a little camera crazy near the end of the game, but were so fun to be around, the goofy pics are well worth it! We're crossing our fingers for a good season!! GO SPARTANS!

WOW, you're welcome!

I had a student stop by and surprise me after the long weekend. My student Kaylee and her mom have known I was pregnant for a while and Kaylee's mom made me a beautiful afghan to say thanks for working with them so close throughout the past year. It's so nice to be appreciated for the work we put into the students and incoming class.

Labor Day weekend

Long weekends are SO NICE! Jeremy left early on Friday to pick up Mandi and Andriy from Chicago to Dubuque for their last "trip" until going home from vacation. They seemed to have had a great time in Ukraine and were so glad they decided to stop by Dubuque before finally going home! Mom, Jess and Clint came up on Friday night too, to spend some quality time with us and the river before the baby comes. We had so much fun Saturday boating. Between playing the frisbee game, posing for Kristin's camera, relaxing, shot gunning beers (I did not participate) and comparing bellies with the locals, it was a fun filled time with the family! The weather could not have been nicer and the evening was great for grilling out and a bonfire at the house. I'm so glad everyone came up before the baby, it's really great to spend time with everyone before the chaos begins! This may be the last time boating for quite some time, so Jeremy was thrilled to have a full boat to enjoy the boat one last weekend!!
