Funny guy

I spent the entire week with Braylen, by myself, between Christmas and New Years.  I either thought the week would end in time outs all day for both of us, or I would truly second guess my job to spend lots more time with my little, "big" 2 yr old.  I really thought the latter would happen...we gets weekends together, but Jeremy is usually around and evenings with Braylen is just a blur of cooking, cleaning up, bath time and bed.  But I was pleasantly surprised.  Braylen was so full of comments and funny things I cannot possibly document them all, but here are a few funny things that happened.
Braylen's new thing is shutting doors.  Everywhere he goes he shuts the door to the room you're in with you or without you.  He often time shuts the door on me when I'm in the bathroom and I can reach the door to open it again when he knocks, which he always does after it's shut.  The routine started like this...I'm in the restroom, Braylen shuts the door, then he yells, "momma momma" and knocks, I say, "who is it" and he says, "Bray J".  It went this way many times and I decided to add another step into our routine...started as above, I say, "Who is it?" Braylen says, "Bray J", I ask "Braylen who" he reponds, "Bray J Fluhr".  So, through our bathroom routine he now knows his full name, well except for the Bray J...
Story number 2.  Since we were talking about names and that Braylen's name is Braylen FLuhr I asked him if he knew what mommy's name is.  He thought about it while I continued saying what does Daddy call me and what do Nana and Papa and Mandi and Jessica call me.  He guessed Momma Fluhr.  I corrected him that he calls me that but other people call me Lara Fluhr.  I went through this routine with him regarding Jeremy's name as well.  He's pretty good, although sometimes when I ask he stills says Momma Fluhr.
Final story about names...it's been bugging that he calls our dogs mommy and rirey, when he can pretty clearly say his Ls.  I started having him say Molly and Riley, enunciating the Ls and he now says Mollllllleeeyy and Rilllleeeyyy and adds Fluhr onto them, because that is their name after all, right?!
Lat story, we went to the vet because Molly had been acting funny the past couple of weekends and I wanted the vet to check out her back.  I explained to Braylen that we were going to Molly's doctor.  This isn't like mommy and Braylen's doctor this is a doctor that works with animals, dogs, cats, ect...  He was sitting in the back seat I could tell taking everything in and repeating Molly's doctor and vet.  But when we got to the vet's office, he was so chatty and, again, taking everything in.  We weigh Molly and take her into the back room and wait for the vet to come in.  We hear lots of barking and meowing and hissing and he gasps or says he wants to go see the dog or cat, but we patiently wait for the vet in the room.  Molly is shaking like a leaf and I tell Braylen it's because she's scared and afraid of the doctor.  Braylen pets Molly's head and says, "Don't be scary Molly.  It's OK."  Molly jumps down and I also tell Braylen that lots of other animals have been in the room and Molly is smelling all of those animals.  He proceeds to get on his hands and knees and mimics Molly, at least until I pull him up and tell him only dogs have good noses like that.  Just before the vet comes in we hear a cat that is super pissed in the room next door.  It is howling and growling and hissing like crazy.  Braylen says, "Mom, the cat." I said something like yeah that cat isn't very happy to be at the vet, it's mad.  Braylen thinks for a second and then says, "That cat needs a time out."  True, it probably did and only to a young child does time outs work for every kind of punishment!!  As we left we saw that cat in it's carrier and my son knows no fear when it comes to domestic animals and goes to reach right in and right before he did the women grabs his hand.  It scared the daylights out of him, but it would have been better that cat claws and teeth digging into his finger!!
We really had a great week together and it was tough on Tuesday sending him back to daycare.  I think I learned so much about him and most importantly how big he really is getting.  I will definitely add this to my New Year's resolution list for 2012, spend a few days with Braylen, just 1 on 1.  I will also make this a must for dad and Braylen, they need that time together just the 2 of them too, that would actually be something I would like to secretly video!!
